QR Code Meaning

A Quick Response (QR) Code is a type of matrix barcode that contains a machine-readable optical label. In fintech and crypto, QR codes are the primary interface for making mobile payments and sharing public addresses.

Instead of manually typing a long, error-prone 42-character Ethereum address, a user simply scans a QR code with their smartphone camera to instantly populate the recipient field.Technically, a QR code in a crypto wallet encodes a Uniform Resource Identifier (URI). This URI contains the public address and sometimes the requested amount and a label.

For example, a Bitcoin URI might look like bitcoin:1A1zP1eP5QGefi2DMPTfTL5SLmv7DivfNa?amount=0.01. This standardization allows different wallet apps to communicate seamlessly, making the user experience much closer to that of a traditional payment app like Venmo or AliPay.In retail environments, QR codes are used for "Push Payments." The merchant displays a QR code on a screen or a printed sticker, and the customer "pushes" the payment to them.

This is highly secure because the customer never has to share their private details or card numbers with the merchant. As real-time payments grow globally, QR codes have become the universal standard for bridging the gap between physical locations and digital ledgers.
