Long Meaning

A market position where an investor buys an asset with the expectation that its price will increase in the future. "Going long" is the most common form of investing.

If you buy Bitcoin at $40,000 and the price goes to $50,000, your long position is in profit. Being "Long" means you own the asset or have a contract that benefits from a price rise.

It represents a "bullish" outlook on the asset. In a "Long-only" fund, the managers only buy assets they believe will grow, rather than trying to profit from price drops.

Long positions can be "Unleveraged" (buying the actual coin) or "Leveraged" (using borrowed money to buy more of the coin). While the potential profit is higher with leverage, the risk of "Liquidation" is introduced.

For most retail investors, "Long and HODL" (holding for the long term) is the most successful historical strategy.
