Proof of Staked Authority (PoSA) is a Hybrid Consensus Mechanism (popularized by BNB Chain) that combines Proof of Authority (PoA) and Proof of Stake (PoS). In this system, there is a Set Number of Validators (e.g., 21) who are Elected by the Community based on the Amount of BNB they have Staked. This creates a Competitive and Efficient network that is Controlled by the Top Stakeholders.PoSA is designed for Extreme Performance.
Because the Validator Set is Small and Known, the Network can achieve Incredible Throughput and Low Gas Fees, which is why BNB Chain became a Leader in Retail DeFi. It provides a Better User Experience than the Congested Ethereum mainnet.
