Bitcoin Reserve Act (BITCOIN Act) Meaning

The BITCOIN Act, formally known as the Bitcoin Reserve Act, is proposed U.S. legislation aimed at integrating Bitcoin into national financial policy. The bill seeks to direct the Federal Reserve to establish a strategic Bitcoin reserve by purchasing up to one million bitcoins over a five‑year period. Proponents argue that holding Bitcoin could help the United States hedge against inflation and maintain the dollar’s global reserve currency status.

The act’s sponsors believe that accumulating Bitcoin on a national balance sheet would signal confidence in the technology and encourage responsible regulation. It would also align the U.S. with other nations exploring digital asset reserves. However, the proposal raises questions about price impact, market manipulation and the proper role of central banks in cryptocurrency markets.

As of this writing, the BITCOIN Act has not been enacted. Its introduction highlights the growing intersection between public policy and digital assets, demonstrating how lawmakers are grappling with the implications of blockchain technology on monetary sovereignty and financial stability.
