Node Meaning

A node is a computer that connects to a blockchain network and participates in its operation. Nodes are the physical infrastructure of the decentralized web.

Without nodes, the blockchain is just code; the nodes are what run the code, store the data, and talk to each other to maintain the network. There are different types of nodes.

Full Nodes download and verify every single transaction and block in the chain's history, enforcing the consensus rules (e.g., rejecting a block if it creates invalid money). Light Nodes (often used by mobile wallets) only download the block headers to verify their own transactions, trusting the full nodes for the rest.

Archive Nodes store the entire historical state of the blockchain, useful for data analysis. The "Node Count" is a key metric for decentralization.

A network with 10,000 independent full nodes (like Bitcoin) is extremely difficult to shut down because you would have to find and seize 10,000 computers across the globe. A network with only 10 nodes is fast but easily censored.
