Merkle Root Meaning

The final hash at the very top of a Merkle Tree. It is a single 64-character string that represents the summary of every single transaction in an entire block.

If even one comma is changed in one transaction at the bottom of the tree, the Merkle Root at the top will change completely. The Merkle Root is included in the block header.

This is what links the transactions to the chain. Because the root is a digest of the whole block, it acts as a digital fingerprint.

It ensures the integrity of the data; if a hacker tried to change a past transaction, the Merkle Root would no longer match.
