Light Node Meaning

A type of blockchain node that does not store the entire history of the ledger. Instead, it only downloads "Block Headers"-tiny summaries of each block-and uses a technique called "Simplified Payment Verification" (SPV) to verify that a transaction is valid.

Light nodes are designed for devices with limited storage and power, such as mobile phones or laptops. They allow a user to interact with the blockchain directly (without trusting a central company) without needing the hundreds of gigabytes of storage required for a "Full Node." While light nodes provide more privacy and security than using a centralized "web wallet," they are still not as secure as a full node.

A light node must "ask" full nodes for the specific data it needs, which can reveal some information about the user’s transactions to those full nodes.
