Web Assembly (WASM) Meaning

Web Assembly (WASM) is a low-level binary instruction format designed as a portable compilation target for high-level languages like C, C++, and Rust. WASM enables near-native performance for web applications, allowing developers to compile code into a binary that runs in the browser with speeds comparable to native apps.

In the blockchain space, WASM is used as an execution environment for smart contracts on chains like Polkadot, NEAR, and CosmWasm, offering faster execution and greater language flexibility compared with traditional virtual machines.

The ability to write smart contracts in languages other than Solidity and compile them to WASM broadens the developer base and enhances security through formal verification tools.
