Wannacry ransomware Meaning

WannaCry was a ransomware attack launched in May 2017 that affected hundreds of thousands of computers across more than 150 countries. Exploiting a vulnerability in Microsoft Windows identified by the EternalBlue exploit, WannaCry encrypted users’ files and demanded a ransom in Bitcoin to decrypt them.

The attack disrupted hospitals, businesses, and government agencies, highlighting the widespread impact of cybercrime. The incident underscored the importance of regular software updates, robust cybersecurity measures, and incident response planning.

WannaCry also brought attention to the use of cryptocurrencies in ransomware, prompting discussions about the traceability of Bitcoin transactions and the need for improved security practices.
