Rekt Meaning

"Rekt" is internet slang for "Wrecked," used in the crypto community to describe a trader who has experienced a catastrophic financial loss. This usually happens because of a sudden market crash, a failed high-leverage trade, a "Rug Pull" scam, or a protocol hack.

Being "Rekt" is often seen as a painful rite of passage for newcomers who haven't yet learned the importance of risk management. The mechanical cause of being rekt is often Automated Liquidation. In a leveraged trade, if the price moves against you, the exchange will automatically close your position to prevent losses from exceeding your initial deposit.

When many traders are liquidated at once, it creates a "Liquidation Cascade," where the forced selling pushes the price even lower, reking even more people. This is a common feature of crypto's extreme volatility.Despite its negative meaning, the "Rekt" brand has been embraced by parts of the community.

There are news outlets that investigate DeFi hacks, and even NFT collections that use the term as a badge of resilience. The core lesson of getting Rekt is the absolute necessity of self-custody and due diligence.

If you don't understand the risks of a protocol or a trade, you are essentially "pre-rekt"-it's only a matter of time before the market takes your capital.
