The Prisoner’s Dilemma is a fundamental concept in Game Theory that describes a situation where two rational individuals might not cooperate, even if it appears in their best interest to do so. In the classic scenario, two prisoners are interrogated separately. If both stay silent, they get a light sentence.
If one betrays the other, the betrayer goes free while the other gets a heavy sentence. If both betray each other, they both get a medium sentence. If a group of miners cooperated to attack the network (a 51% attack), they might gain a short-term profit. If a stablecoin starts to lose its peg, every individual holder has an incentive to Sell First to save their capital. If everyone cooperates and holds, the peg might recover. But because no one knows if others will Betray them by selling, a Bank Run occurs.
