Orphan Block Meaning

A valid block that has been solved by a miner but is not accepted into the main blockchain. This usually happens when two miners solve a block at nearly the same time.

The network temporarily splits. Eventually, one chain becomes longer (has more work).

The network follows the longest chain. The block on the shorter chain becomes an "Orphan" (or Stale Block).

The miner who found the orphan block loses the block reward. It is a wasted effort.

High rates of orphan blocks indicate network latency issues, as blocks aren't propagating fast enough to tell other miners to stop working on the old puzzle.
