Order lifecycle management Meaning

The tracking of an order from its birth (submission) to its death (filled, cancelled, or expired). This includes validation (does the user have funds?), routing, placing in the book, partial fills, and final settlement.

For institutional OMS (Order Management Systems), lifecycle management is complex. It involves reporting the status back to the trader in real-time and updating the portfolio balances.

Any bug in lifecycle management can be disastrous-like an order that reports as "cancelled" but actually executes, leaving the trader with an unwanted position.
