Open-Source Meaning

A software philosophy where the original source code is made freely available and may be redistributed and modified. Cryptocurrency is deeply rooted in the open-source movement.

Bitcoin’s code is open source; anyone can audit it to verify that it does what it claims to do. Open-source code builds trust.

In a system without a central authority, users must trust the code. If the code were hidden (proprietary), no one could verify the supply cap or security rules.

It also accelerates innovation. Developers can "Fork" (copy) an open-source project and improve upon it.

Litecoin was a fork of Bitcoin; Binance Chain was a fork of Ethereum. This collaborative, iteration-based development model is responsible for the rapid evolution of the crypto ecosystem.
