Local Payment Methods Meaning

Payment systems that are specific to a particular country or region and are preferred by the local population over global options like Visa or Mastercard. Examples include Pix in Brazil, iDEAL in the Netherlands, and Alipay in China.

For global companies, supporting local payment methods (LPMs) is essential for "Market Entry." In many regions, the majority of the population may not have a credit card, but they all use a specific local app or bank-transfer system. Offering these methods can increase checkout conversion rates by 20-50%.

These methods are often "Push" payments, meaning the user authorizes the transfer directly from their bank. This makes them safer for the merchant, as there is no "Chargeback" risk compared to credit cards.

Integrating these through a "Global PSP" (Payment Service Provider) allows a business to accept dozens of different local currencies and methods through a single integration.
