The process of reducing delays in a system to achieve the fastest possible execution speeds. For a trading firm, latency optimization might involve "kernel bypassing," where the data skips the operating system's standard processing layers to go straight to the application. In decentralized systems, latency optimization focuses on "propagation speed"-how quickly a new block can be shared across a global network of nodes.
