Hosted Payment Page Meaning

A checkout interface managed by a third-party payment service provider (PSP). When a customer initiates a transaction, they are redirected to this external page to enter sensitive card details.

This setup allows the merchant to avoid direct contact with raw payment data, significantly reducing the scope of PCI DSS compliance requirements. These pages are often customizable to mirror the merchant's branding, ensuring a consistent user experience despite the redirection.

Once the payment is authorized, the PSP sends the user back to the merchant's site. It is a favored solution for businesses that prioritize security and ease of integration over deep control of the checkout UI.

Because the PSP assumes the risk of data handling, the merchant is insulated from potential breaches involving payment information at the point of entry. This "hands-off" approach streamlines the technical requirements for small and medium-sized enterprises to accept global payments securely.
