Astroturfing Meaning

Astroturfing is the deceptive practice of masking coordinated marketing or public relations campaigns as organic, grassroots community sentiment. Organizations create or finance fake accounts, testimonials, or user groups to simulate public support or imply independent advocacy.

Historically used in politics and corporate lobbying, astroturfing manipulates public perception by creating the illusion of widespread endorsement. In crypto, this often appears as fabricated community enthusiasm, manufactured hype around tokens, or orchestrated shilling campaigns in forums and social channels.

Astroturfing undermines transparency, distorts market sentiment, and exposes users to misleading information.
